Bunk beds are terrific for maximizing the usability of small rooms. Use it where sibling share a room or in dorm rooms. But what is a bunk bed without a bunk bed ladder? Ladders are essential in keeping bunk beds easy to use and prevent accidents from happening. There are safety concerns connected with these ladders because they are the least sturdy parts. It can easily get destroyed and fall apart. With a few tools, bolts, and wood, you can easily make a new one for you beds.
The first step in making a bunk bed ladder is to consider safety. Make sure that the raw materials are strong and durable. The exact shape of the ladder is more of math and geometry but don’t be scared, sometimes it can be very simple. Decide first on the length of the entire ladder. Measure twice, cut, and then measure again. The rungs can be 18 inches long and 10-12 inches apart. Bolt these rungs to two side pieces measured exactly to reach the top of the bed. Once assembled, smooth the edges and sand the whole ladder. Varnish or paint your work to add protection to the wood as well as for aesthetic purposes. Finally, nail the ladder to the top of the bunk bed. It should touch the ground for added support. Double check the bolts and secure the nails and, congratulations, you’re done!
You can also use your imagination in making the ladder. Be creative. A bunk bed ladder doesn’t always have to look the same with other ladders. Add personal touches, carve out figures in the wood, paint with fancy colors and patterns, it’s really just your imagination. And when you’re done, it’s definitely something to be proud of.
