A Dog’s Bad Breath Can Be More Than Just A Simple Stench

Dogs are said to be man’s best friend. They are among the most common household pets which bring joy and security to every home. When taking care of pets, there is a common problem which may be noticed among canines. Some of them may get fleas, yet the most neglected one would be a dog’s bad breath. There are several factors which may be the reason behind this problem. Some of them may be because of simple neglect and poor hygiene; while others may be a sign of a more serious health problem.

The most common reason for these may be attributed to dental hygiene. The first thing you would need to do is to inspect the dog’s mouth for any potential problems. There may just be a simple problem of food obstruction between the teeth. There could be a piece of bone or any other biodegradable material stuck in between. Other problems attributed to the teeth may be of decaying teeth; those which are chipped or are developing abscess. The animal may also be experiencing Periodontitis or has mouth tumors in some cases.

A dog’s bad breath can also be considered as a symptom of a more alarming medical condition. The dog may be suffering from sinus infections, gastrointestinal problems or kidney disease. As soon as you have established that it is not because of dental hygiene, you must responsibly seek the opinion of a veterinarian to be able to diagnose the condition. These should not be taken for granted. It is important to keep the pet healthy as much as you would keep yourself free from any illness.
